Instructions
  1. In a heavy saucepan over medium heat, gently cook onion and garlic in oil until they are soft, but not brown.
  2. Stir in yellow split peas, the seasonings, pepper sauce, broth.
  3. Raise heat to medium and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for about 1 hr, stirring occasionally, or until soup is fairly thick
  4. Stir in vinegar. Adjust seasonings, add more pepper sauce, salt, or pepper, as desired.
  5. Garnish with whole fresh thyme leaves.
